What is a LoreTag?

A LoreTag is an NFT created from a photograph of a real-world item or person. A LoreTag is your story!Although a LoreTag is, at its core, an NFT, its purpose is quite different. It is not meant to be primarily art or collectible data. Instead, it is meant primarily to be the digital representation of the real-world item, and, more importantly, its history.Do you have your father’s old war medal?What makes it valuable to you? It’s not the medal or ribbon. It’s not how much it might bring at auction. The value is the story. And stories shouldn’t die.Imagine someone coming to visit you. Are there things in your home that you would want to tell them about? Your grandfather’s hunting rifle, a rock you picked up at a volcano in Costa Rica, a table globe that was a gift from your daughter. The rifle, rock, or globe are perhaps not monetarily valuable, but the history is. While some would have wandering minds as you drone on about your rock, others might be fascinated, even jealous. Enter LoreTags!

Is every LoreTag unique?

Yes! And in more ways than one!
One of our core policies at LoreTags is that each real-world item will have one, and only one, corresponding NFT. It is possible to take photos of your car and create endless NFTs of it. However, it’s unlikely such NFTs would have any value to anyone. However, at LoreTags, we allow the creation of only one NFT for any single item.
This policy creates added value both for the owner and for the story. The NFT community can be assured that, if they search for a LoreTag of the Golden Gate Bridge, it will be the only one.

Are LoreTags just .jpg files of photos?

Yes. At present, all LoreTags are photographs submitted by users. LoreTags has no plans to deviate from this model.

Are LoreTags connected in any way to the real-world item on which it is based?

Yes and no. Although NFTs exist that are legally bound to a real-world item, such as NFT ownership of real estate or securities, LoreTags have no legal or financial ties to the item in question. A its heart, a LoreTag is a digital avatar of the item created for the purpose of creating a narrative for the item, a narrative which will remain perpetual and may continue beyond both the life of the item and the creator of the NFT.

Ownership & Legal

Do LoreTags carry with them an owner ship interest in the real-world item?

No. A LoreTag carries no ownership interest in any real-world item. LoreTags are meant to be the story of the item, not the item itself. And the owner of the LoreTag has the ability to solely control the story.

Do I have to own the item that I want to make a LoreTag of?

Yes. This is a very firm requirement. For most household items, LoreTags will accept your statement that you own the item. For other items which may carry legal title, such as vehicles or real property, we may require further proof of ownership.

Are there any restrictions on what can be a LoreTag?

Yes. Examples are: things you do not legally own, legally protected property (copyrights, trademarks, etc), humans other than yourself, lewd or pornographic material, etc.

Can I create a LoreTag for my rental house or for my apartment?

No. Only record owners may mint a LoreTag. We understand that there may be many things which have sentimental value to a person, which the person does not own. This is unfortunate, but our company model does not allow for this.

Are there any circumstances under which I can mint a LoreTag of copyrighted material?

Yes! You can mint such a LoreTag if you own the copyright.

Creation & Editing

How is a LoreTag Made

Creating a LoreTag is surprisingly simple, accessible to the most novice creators.
1. Find your item! It might be something of great value to you: a porcelain vase from China or a dogwood tree you grew from a sapling. Or, it may be something more mundane: the fried egg you ate for breakfast or the old can of paint thinner you found in the attic. It can be anything….as long as it is yours.

2. Take a digital photograph of it.

3. Submit your photograph to be minted into an NFT.

4. Receive your NFT! It’s that simple!

Can I change my LoreTag after it is created?

No! This would defeat the most basic purpose of our vision. NFTs cannot be changed after creation. However, the webpage which corresponds to your NFT may be edited at will until such time as you decide to sell the NFT. And the story you tell will eternally follow your LoreTag.

What important things do I need to consider before I submit a photo for review?

You should pay special attention to the following:
1. The photo must not contain a logo or other trademarked or copyrighted material. You can make a LoreTag of your shoes, but please try to omit any logo. Such photos will be rejected.

2. The title you submit for your LoreTag must properly identify the item. Avoid random or unrelated titles. For example, a photo of a sock with a title that reads “Stinky!” would be rejected, as the title does not identify the item in the photo.

Does every submission for the creation of a LoreTag have to be reviewed?

Yes. We do this to ensure compliance with our policies.

Value & Sales

How is a LoreTag Made

Absolutely! We deeply hope you create something valuable to you! Value doesn’t always mean money. We want every single LoreTag to be loved as much as the item which inspired its creation. If, on the other hand, you just want to know about the dollars and cents, we anticipate that other owners will find value in your LoreTags as well. However, the monetary value may be extremely dependent on how interesting other people find your item. A LoreTag of a big-name celebrity might become unbelievably valuable. A LoreTag of your breakfast? Probably not. Still, you have the ability to affect monetary value by telling your story! A LoreTag of a spoon of a bicycle might not be very enticing. But a LoreTag of the bicycle you rode to win the Tour de France could be expected to draw a lot more attention.

Can I sell my LoreTag?

Yes! For purposes of buying and selling, LoreTag NFTs are identical to other NFTs in that they can be bought or sold freely. But be careful. If you sell your NFT, you also lose control of its webpage.

If I sell my item, do I lose my LoreTag as well?

No. Your LoreTag is yours until you decide to sell it. However, if you sell your real-world item, you might at least consider letting the buyer know you have the LoreTag as well. He/She might be willing to offer you a good sum for it.

What happens to my LoreTag if I sell my real-world item?

The most important aspect of selling a LoreTag is that you lose control of its corresponding web page. That means you can no longer add or edit information thereon. Please be careful when transferring your LoreTag. While you may well want the story to continue without you, you should use your best effort to ensure that personal information or other possibly-damaging information is erased. Once you let go of your LoreTag, you lose control of ALL information on its web page.

Are LoreTags Expensive?

No! Here at LoreTags, one of our biggest goals is to make our product accessible to everyone, and cost is something that can get in the way. Our desire is for creators to mint to their heart’s content without having to pay attention to their pocketbooks.

Technical & Wallet

Do I have to have a cryptocurrency wallet in order to mint a Loretag?

Yes. Loretags are digital assets and a crypto wallet is necessary in order to mint, receive, and store them.

What is an NFT?

NFT stands for “non-fungible token”. Simply put, an NFT is a digital file that is unique and unchangeable. That means there is only one, and there can ever be only one. For example, you could color squiggly lines on a sheet of white paper, take a photograph of it, and convert that photograph into an NFT. To the novice, that just sounds like a photo of squiggles. The difference is that someone might carefully counterfeit your original drawing using the same type of pencil, making it indistinguishable from your original creation. An NFT of your squiggles, however, is completely unique and unable to be counterfeited. In this way, your drawing is written in stone as an NFT.

What is the difference between a LoreTag and an NFT?

LoreTags are simply a collection of uniquely minted NFTs. Thus, every LoreTag is an NFT, but not every NFT is a LoreTag. Unlike other NFTs, a LoreTag will give you access to create the history and sentiment behind your real-world item.
The purpose of LoreTags is to provide you with the opportunity to a) display to the whole world the things that mean the most to you and 2) ensure that the story of those things will never disappear.

Visibility & Social

Can other people see my LoreTag’s page?

Yes! What would be the fun, otherwise? Of course, you can restrict the information you’ve added if you wish. But the NFT and its basic information will always be visible in the search function.

What information can I add to the webpage corresponding to my NFT?

Anything! At present, you have unlimited ability to add text and/or some limited file types, including photographs. In this way, we hope that your page will not only house your NFT, but also add a social aspect, as others become interested in your story. Have an NFT of grandma’s scarf? Post some pics of grandma, or an old recipe.

Why not use another website to mint an NFT of my treasured item?

Well, you could. But it would not come with the same benefits. An NFT minted from a photo of your item would simply be that: an NFT of a photo. A LoreTag, on the other hand, automatically gives you access to a dedicated webpage for the NFT and the ability to continually create narrative content which will follow the NFT. We also hope to be a central meeting point for owners to display their NFT and its corresponding story.

Violations

What happens if I break the rules?

Well, we hope you don’t. That would be negative. We enforce our policies very strictly. Our policies are meant to protect our own integrity and the integrity of our product. Violation could result in banishment from our website or locking/deletion of the webpage associated with your NFT, which would severely damage its value as both an NFT and a history book.
